Mulching & Wood Chipping Cairns
On site chipping of tropical green waste and bulk mulch delivery across Cairns — fresh hardwood chip, aged compost mulch, sold by the cubic metre.
Cairns clients come to us for chipping and mulch delivery one of two ways. Either they have prunings, storm debris or knocked-down regrowth sitting in the yard and need it gone without trailer runs to the tip transfer station, or they need mulch delivered in bulk for a landscaping or gardening job. We handle both, often in the same visit when the timing works.
On site chipping covers branches and prunings up to about 200mm in diameter — that includes DIY weekend pruning, storm debris left in the yard after a wet season event, or green waste from a small block clear. The chip stays in your yard as a pile for mulching, or we load it back into the truck and take it away. Either option saves multiple tip runs and the loading that goes with them.
For delivery we carry fresh hardwood chip direct from our own removals — good for moisture retention, weed suppression and paths — and aged composted mulch that has broken down enough for garden beds and new plantings. Fresh chip temporarily ties up nitrogen as it decomposes, so we steer clients toward aged mulch for beds where new plants are going in. Orders are by the cubic metre, delivered across Cairns. Spreading can be added if you'd prefer not to wheelbarrow it yourself.

Mulching & Wood Chipping FAQs
How large a branch can the chipper take?
Up to around 200mm diameter clean through the feed. Anything bigger gets cut into shorter sections first. Trunk wood over that size gets cut into rounds and either left stacked or removed as a haulage line — it does not go through the chipper.
What is the difference between fresh and aged mulch?
Fresh chip comes off the chipper after a recent removal — mostly hardwood, holds moisture, locks down weeds. It works well on paths and around established trees. Aged mulch has spent months in a pile breaking down — softer, darker, nutrient-friendly. Use it for garden beds and new plantings where fresh chip would temporarily tie up soil nitrogen.
How much mulch should I order?
For a 75 to 100mm layer, one cubic metre covers roughly 10 to 13 square metres of bed. Measure the length and width in metres, multiply them, divide by 11, and that gives you a rough starting number. Ring through the dimensions and we will work it out with you so you order the right amount.
Can mulch be delivered and spread in Cairns?
Yes. Delivery is a tipper drop at the driveway or wherever the truck can reach. If you would rather not wheelbarrow it yourself, add a spreading line to the quote and the crew will rake it across your beds before they leave.
